DESCRIPTION

The only constant in Hollywood is change, and as the movie business rushes headlong into the digital age, the effects of physical and cultural change can be seen most clearly in the iconic Los Angeles locations where our favorite movies were filmed.

Some of these locations remain as they were when first captured on film, while many others have begun to yield to the inexorable pressures of change. Some have become unrecognizable, while others have disappeared altogether.

Lost Hollywood is our humble attempt to capture for posterity those locations which remain, before the movies become the only place we can see them again.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S)

Jasen Laks was born in Santa Monica, California, in 1980. After completing a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California, he would begin a more than twenty-year career in the motion picture industry which would inform his photography both visually and contextually. His work as a photojournalist has been published worldwide. Laks holds both U.S. and Polish citizenship and currently lives in Los Angeles’s South Bay.

Lars Theriot was born in suburban Virginia, the first member of his family born outside of the state of Louisiana in some 200 years. His first step towards Hollywood was attending the Newhouse School of Communication at Syracuse University where he got a film degree and another one in business administration. The latter was largely a hedge, because who the hell knows what it means to get a job in Hollywood when they’re eighteen years old? After a stint with Producer Steve Tisch, Lars moved to ICM, a full-service talent agency where he spent twenty-two years representing screenwriters, directors, and a few movie stars. In 2016, he left the agency for Industry Entertainment Partners where he has been a lit manager and partner for almost a decade. He lives with his family in the West Adams neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles and watches old movies every night.
