Having spent the better part of my life in St. Clair County, especially the Moody area, I had known about the mining that took part there. What I didn’t realize was just how big & powerful it was. This book has been a great historical insight into the areas that I spent a lot of my childhood in & around. I’m glad this was written so the history can be kept alive.
This author does an excellent job at explaining the importance and history behind these now abandoned buildings. The photographs in this book are breathtaking. Every page you turn feels like you’re transported back in time. I highly recommend this book if you’re interested in history and abandoned asylums. 100/10!
"Ghosts of an Empire" is a must-read for anyone interested the history of the Alabama Fuel and Iron Company in St. Clair County. The book is not only thoroughly researched and documented but is also written in a narrative style that is easily read and which holds the reader's attention, rather than being merely an historical accounting. Those who have a personal interest and connection to the coal towns of the area will find it especially interesting and enlightening, and I would highly recommend this book.
Great book with great history
