America’s Bloody Hill of Destiny: A New Look at the Struggle for Little Round Top, Gettysburg, July 2, 1863By Phillip Thomas TuckerI would like to first start by applauding the author of America’s Bloody Hill of Destiny, Phillip Thomas Tucker. Mr. Tucker’s innate ability to drill down into this horrendous time in America’s history to uncover and explore long forgotten facts is amazing. This is my first experience reading his work, I must say its outstanding. We have all heard tales of the Civil War, the bloody battles and how family members fought against family members. In this book our author gives us personal accounts from the soldiers themselves. For example, Private Milton Barrett, from Georgia, who died in battle, along with 2 brothers and a brother in law, will be forever memorialized in this book, where his description of how it was for him to serve along side the Texans in the Texas Brigade, reaches out to the reader and touches your soul. I could really see the man who wrote the letter to his family, this it the type of details you are awarded with from this author. This wonderful book is chocked full of details, accounts and names of those who lived and died during this traumatic time in America. That’s part of what makes this such an amazing book. To be perfectly honest, this is the type of book you can read over and over and discover little nuggets that you may have overlooked in the previous reading. It contains so much material, it’s like taking a course on Gettysburg Battles and Generals! If you are a Civil War buff or like militia history, you will absolutely love this book. If you have just a passing interest in History, you will thoroughly enjoy this masterfully written book. For me, sharing the personal stories and the names of those who were there made this book priceless. I highly recommend it to everyone – no matter your tastes in books, you can find something of interest in this brilliant book written by a brilliant author.
