Abandoned New Jersey: Forgotten Spaces of the Garden State

Author(s): Joel Nadler
DESCRIPTION
Abandoned New Jersey: Forgotten Spaces of the Garden State takes you back in time, discovering what’s been lost in this fascinating, historic state.

Readers are invited to see behind some of the closed doors of abandoned buildings throughout New Jersey, such as old houses, hospitals, movie palaces, and more. The spaces you see here, many beautiful, even if decaying, have been left on the wayside and forgotten. Some continue to disintegrate and others have already been demolished.

Follow Joel Nadler as he leads you on a photographic journey of these lost places. He shares some untold stories and makes readers aware of the issues surrounding these hidden gems. In addition to photographs of extraordinary places, this book offers readers insights to help them appreciate and preserve these important buildings.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S)
Joel Nadler is a photographer from Central New Jersey who got his start exploring an abandoned county mental hospital in Northern New Jersey. Fascinated with this historic place, he went on to produce a short documentary focused on the hospital’s importance within the local community. Joel started his journey in photography while attending Goucher College and at the Glasgow School of Art. Intrigued by the history of abandoned places, he began documenting more of them through his photography. His studies in historic preservation and communications created a perfect foundation for this type of photography. Joel is proud to share his images and impressions of these lost places and is eager to tell readers what it’s like to explore them.
